Title: Optimization of TCP/IP Traffic Across Shared ADSL
Author: Jesper Dangaard Brouer hawk@diku.dk
Institution: Copenhagen University Department of Computer Science
Grade: 11 which corresponds to "A" in the US (The Danish Grade System)

The thesis is focused and motivated by finding a practical solution to the performance related problems observed on ADSL. This goal have been achieved. The practical part of the thesis have resulted in a software package called: The ADSL-optimizer.

Besides finding and implementing a practical solution, the thesis also contains extensive testing on unmodified ADSL connections. One of the alarming results is, that a single (bulk) upstream TCP connection with ease introduce a queueing delay of 1200 ms on a 512 kbit/s upstream connection (directly dependent on the TCP window size). Furthermore utilizing the downstream capacity is not possible during this upstream bulk transfer.
